Hotmail Wave 10 Overview Hotmail 10 details Hotmail wave 10 |
On November 17, 2004, Hotmail Wave 10 will incorporate new features and functionality related to: Human Interface Proof Validation; Sending Photos; Junk Mail Filtering; Anti-Virus Scanning on e-Mail Forwarding; Contact Cards; Sender Identification; E-mail Search & Sort. Human Interface Proof (HIP) refers to the process of validating customer accounts to prevent automated programs from sending spam. Customers are prompted to validate their accounts by typing in the characters they see presented in a picture.

Customers can now send digital photos in Hotmail with a simple process of selecting and sending the photos. They can attach multiple photos to a message at the same time, and edit images within Hotmail. This new photo attaching feature is available only to customers who are using the Internet Explorer Web browser, version 5.0 or later, on a computer that is running Windows. Customers with other system configurations can attach photos to e-mail messages by selecting Attach File on the Compose page.
Previously, on the drop down menu in Hotmail, there was both a Report option and a Report and Block option. With Wave 10 Hotmail, the Junk Mail does not feature a drop down menu available from the toolbar. Block functionality will be accessible through the Options selection, rather than from the Inbox or Read Message view.
Previously, Hotmail scanned any attachment that was uploaded (as a new attachment to a sent message) or downloaded (received) to Hotmail. However, it did not scan forwarded messages (attachments which were downloaded in received email and then sent via Forward).
Now all forwarded messages will be scanned with Trend Micro Antivirus. Because it will take more time for customers to forward messages in Hotmail, they may have questions about the delay.
Spaces is a free MSN service available in November 2004 that will allow a customer to set up a personal “Web Log,” (better known as a blog), photo album, music play list and more.
VOL with MSN Premium users with upgraded mailboxes [2GB] may see changes to the Find and Sort features if they ac*****ulate a very high volume of e-mail messages. In some such cases, the Find and Sort features will become disabled. In order to resolve this, the user should move messages to a subfolder or delete some of the email messages in their Inbox.
Note: This is affected by the number of messages in a user’s inbox, not the size of any specific message).
In an ongoing effort to limit the amount of unwanted messages (SPAM) customers receive, Microsoft has implemented Sender ID. Sender ID helps identify senders of messages that may have been spoofed by inserting text into e-mail messages to notify customers when a sender could not be verified.
